"These coasters were made using the clear Inkjet Water-slide decal, which I printed and then carefully applied to some natural stone tiles. "These were all made with digital images which I printed and then coloured using distress inks. When dried I scanned them back into my PC and using my graphics programme I lightened the images before printing them out onto your Inkjet Printable Shrink Plastic. I cut them out and punched a hole for attaching, and then shrunk them with my heat gun".


	The runner-up was... Caroline Whitehouse Who won a £50 Crafty Computer Paper voucher for using both the Japanese Watercolour Paper for the photo and Inkjet Wood Veneer for the frame.

Fabric Crafts

How she created this fabulous piece...
"I used Crafty Computer Paper Fabric Printing Sheets to print out five images of my granddaughter at the beach. The four images around the centre one were edited in Photoshop to deliberately fade the colour. The fabrics were fused to a felt base with Bondaweb. The anorak in the centre picture was "thread painted" to intensify the colour then machine quilted. The piece was satin-stitched around the edge and then a twisted cord of toning colours was added."


	The runner-up was... Patricia Hodgkinson Who won a £50 Crafty Computer Paper voucher for her use of our A3 sized Printable Cotton to create her piece called 'Crinoline Lady Wall Art'.

Miniature World

"The curtain fabric in this room was designed by Duncan and I scaled it down and printed it on one of your Printable Cotton Fabrics. The painting on the wall was reproduced in the same way. I have also used your Water-slide Decal Paper to put patterns on reproductions of original antique plates in the kitchen, and have printed more scaled down fabrics for other rooms."

Competition results for download and graphics competition

We organised a small competition this year for any projects which were created using any of our downloadable graphics and graphics CDs. We had a great response to the competition and we have now posted the results on the site. The winnner was Lynne Neil who made a lovely card using the poppy graphics and decoupage techniques. Runners up were Emy Buxton with her cup cake card, May Brechany which a lovely card showing a vintage lady and the dutch backing papers. Our last runner up was Susan Skipper who made this large card using backing papers and a vintage image from the vintage graphics CD. There were other entries we had to show and they were awarded a highly commended award. Although we were sent many greetings card designs we did have a fabulous entry from Richard Dimmock who made some very original projects creating scenes using many of our downloadable graphics. We have only shown one photo on the website but there were other projects created by Richard. They took many hours to achieve and we thought they were fabulous. We hope you enjoy looking at the entrants. We always hold a big competition every summer which is open to all standards and covers all the products we sell, we will be announcing the begining of this competition in June 2010 and entrants usually have to be in by the end of August.

I thought I would add some photos of our office so you can see what Crafty Computer Paper is all about. I will get round to making a video showing all the staff in action and of course the office dogs Pops and Lulu.

New window sticker/cling

One thing that sounds easy but isn't is making good inside window stickers. The reason is because the inkjet printer does not produce white ink. You would think that you could just buy some clear normal window cling and then print any images onto it and then stick it on the window. This doesn't work at all well because if the image has white or light coloured areas this will just print out clear and not show the colours. Also with normal window cling you have to print the image in reverse if you want it to show through the window or you have to stick the sticker on the outside of the window. The only way clear window cling works is if you use dark colours or black lettering. It is very difficult to make a white window sticker because you have to attach the white print out on the outside of the window and you can't create a sticker which can be viewed from the outside.
We have sourced a great new window sticker/cling which makes white or clear window stickers which can be viewed from the inside of the window. The paper we sell isn't a printer paper, and it is effectively a sticker that is applied to any kind of paper or card. You print out what you like using your inkjet or laser printer or you could use a drawing or a painting instead, the sticker does not have to be produced using a printer at all. The window sticker paper is an adhesive sheet which is attached to the front of the print you want to show on the window. The trick here is how to make the front surface of the picture sticky so it can be attached to the inside of the window. Once you have applied the adhesive sheet to the paper, you are left with quite a thick sheet, it looks a little like a laminating sheet. If you make stickers for schools or charities then you can make them and sell them at this state. The next stage is the clever bit, there is a very thin film on top of the adhesive sheet, you will need to use a craft knife or a sharp nail to find this film. Find the edge and then pull off completley, to reveal a sticky surface to the print out. You then just attach it to the inside of the window. What is also great is that you can take if off again and reposition without leaving any resisdue. Leave the sticker for as long as you like and take it off and you wouldn't know it had been there. Like some window clings you have to apply a little bit of moisture to get them to stick again, our paper keeps it stick very well so you won't have this problem either.

Some pre-made stickers can be very expensive to buy but now you can make very professional looking stickers quickly and easily. We think they would be great for schools and charites, showing off artwork or selling stickers for cars. You can also make temporay stickers to advertise an event on the inside of a car window. Shops can use them to enhance their windows with decorations for christmas or advertising promotions. The uses are endless, watch the video on the site to see how easy they are the make.

We apoligise to Viv Cash

I have been meaning to do this for ages but we have to apoligise to Viv Cash who very kindly sent us in the most beautiful project for the Crafty Competition 2009. We have contacted her and apoligised but we felt we had to tell you what happened and apoligise to her publicly.
We had all her projects in a bag in the back of the car, Charlotte took them to the photographic studio to take photos of the work to add to the website. She then put them back in the car for the weekend to take back to the office on Monday. Over the weekend her husband filled the car with rubbish to take to the tip and threw away everything from the back of the car, including Viv's lovely work plus a great deal of Charlotte's finished cards (2 weeks of work) at the same time. It was awful and we felt so bad this had happened because we know how much work went into making these projects.
Viv used the cotton inkjet fabric sheets to make and embroider a beautiful cover using her own designs and embellishing further with beads etc. She also made a lovely pin cushion. The only saving grace was we had taken the photos of the work and we wanted to show them on this post.
Sorry Viv this happened! We did send her a goodie bag of fabrics to make up for her loss and we look forward to seeing what she made with these fabrics. Viv is a very old customer of ours which made it even worse and I hope she has fogiven us!!

Whats it like to do live TV on Create and Craft

I have a great day at Create and Craft on Wednesday, We were launching the new CD Peep Show cards. I have to say it is quite nerve racking and you never know how well you are going to do. I always have to be at the studio 2 hours before the show to set up, sometimes we are on quite early in the morning so it is an early start. First I have to go to the Green Room which is always quite interesting, there always seems to be some good characters in there to talk to. All the models are usually in there and there are a few dressing rooms so you can get changed there aswell. I am usually highly organised when I arrive and am ready to set up which only takes me a few minutes.
I have to make as many samples as possible for the shows and you never know how many you are going to make in one show. I usually have about 4 ready to go, they need to be simple and quick to do. They don't want to see cutting or boring stuff, they need to see the example made in a few minutes. Anything which needs tape is done before hand. I have seen some demonstrators struggle as they apply the double sided tape, The presentor gets bored and moves onto something else quite quickly if the demo is taking too long. I think the viewers like watching the demos but as a selling point of view this slows the process down so they have to have as much impact as possible.
The studio is a very large black room with about 3 or 4 sets, these are made up of large counters with props behind. In the old days we had to bring enough stuff to fill the background aswell but luckily we don't have to do this anymore. All the products which are being sold for the show are laid out on the counter. There isn't much room to spread out to do the demos so you have to get used to working in a very small space. Showing the examples is the same, not much room. While setting up the producer comes to see you to see what is being sold and how they are going to do the demos. The whole process is very adlib and there are no scripts or auto cues. I have to take off my hat to the presenters because they need to talk non-stop for an hour and have a producer speaking down their ears.
After set up I go back to the Green Room and have a cup of coffee and a chat to who ever is in there. There are no make-up artists or hairdressers, it is up to you what you look like. All the presenters including the men have to wear a thick layer or make-up, if you don't you can look very washed out under the lights. There is a telly in The Green room so you can watch the shows as they are happening, this can be a little bit boring so you end up going outside to the mobile cafe for a bacon butty. There is always a collection of interesting people there too. I have to say that everybody is very friendly indeed.
Fifteen minutes before the show starts you are called back to the studio. To get to the studio is like Fort Knocks and there are many locked doors which can only be opened by authorised persons. Quite often another show is being aired and the few minutes between the latest show and my show starting the lights and monitors are all moved around. The Presenter arrives and stands next to you, usally talking to the gallery upstairs through an ear piece. I can get a little nervous at this stage but it all happens so quickly you soon forget that you are in front of the camera. The show starts and The Presenter starts talking and going through the items for sale on the show. It can get quite hot under the lights and you can feel a little dazed by the experience plus you can see what you look like with the monitors infront of you which is very off putting. It is always good when I start making the demos, I am usually quite quick and get through most of them in the show. I have to show how the CD works on the PC and try and make it sound as easy as possible, which of course it is. The hour goes so quickly and it really amazes me how much the presenters can talk. Of course they talk to you but you have to take their instruction and they are being instructed from the gallery upstairs. You can really tell if you are selling well if they emphasis your product more than the other products, this is a very good sign indeed. The presenter will tell the audience how much stock is selling and advises them to ring in to place their order before it all gets sold out. We did have one show where everything was sold out in an hour which was great. The first CD we ever did on Create and Craft was sold out in 10 minutes. Things have changed now and they are much more organised about stock now.
After a quuck hour the shows finishes and we are off air. I never know how well we have done until the orders come into the office. We nearly sold out in one show for the latest CD and they have doubled the order so that is a good sign. The sound man takes off my mike and the floor manager shows me out of the studio and then I head off to my car and then up the A1 home. It is always a nice feeling when you know you have finished, the relief of no nerves is great. Then when you get back home you get the phone call from the buyers asking you to do another show and the whole process starts again!!!

Peep Show Cards are now on the site

We have just added the Peep Show cards to the Instant download section of the site. There are 20 to choose from, covering Christmas, Easter, Valentines and everyday. We launched them on Friday and they have been very popular. We have created a video to watch which shows how they are made. There are quite a few processes involved when making them but once you have made one the rest is easy. They are great fun to make and these cards will look so great on the mantlepiece this Christmas.

The difference between an inkjet and laser printer

We sometimes get asked what printer customers should buy. We sell papers for laser and inkjet printers. As you can imagine we have tried out many types of printers and here I will give our view of the pros and cons.

Inkjet printers are much slower at printing but are very easy to use and will give great results. You can print many kinds of paper through them and change the settings. If you have a thick paper then you can change the paper to thicker paper setting. There is always a good range of settings and you can choose what paper size you want to print off. There are many models on the market and you can buy a good one for very little money. If you are a home user and do not want to print of loads of documents then I would stick with an inkjet printer.

Laser printers are so different to inkjet printer; they are quite big and heavy and print off documents very quickly. If you want to print off many documents then buy a laser printer. But they are very very expensive to run! The toners cost a fortune even if you get them re-filled. We once bought an Epson laser printer and we took out the insurance when we bought it. It went wrong and thought our insurance covered it but oh no it only covered the casing and the engine. The rest of the machine was a consumable and we weren't covered. I would suggest you buy a laser printer and when you have to start replacing the drums etc which are all consumables, you buy a new one, it will work out cheaper.

Never get the insurance out for a new laser printer, it is a total waste of money. You pay it for three years and I can guarantee you will replace it within three years. The insurance does not cover the consumables and most of the laser printer is a consumable and needs to be replaced after a certain amount of pages printed. They are all different and some laser paper works with some and not for others. Depending which company you buy from they will always say you have to use their paper for the printer to work properly. I sometimes think this is a bit of a sales ploy. You can print off any type of uncoated paper in a laser printer. You could use the same paper in an inkjet printer too. Some papers we sell will not work in an inkjet printer only a laser, the ink will not dry if it is put through an inkjet printer.

Laser printer settings are very limited and hard to adjust. They also have different paper feeds and these can be very complicated. They are not as easy to use as an inkjet printer, great if you have an office and you want a printer/photocopier. They are basically a photocopier attached to a computer; the quality isn't always as good as an inkjet printer. We use laser printers in the office for printing off instructions and orders and we really need them because of the volume but when they go wrong it can take a whole morning to get them going again. We now use a company who turns up and looks after them and re-fills the toners. The toners are so expensive and they never seem to be empty when they say they are empty but you have to replace them or the machine will not print. You don't just have one colour or a black and white cartridge; you have four colours and one colour always seem to run out more then others, very frustrating.

To recap, if you don't need to print off many documents then use an inkjet printer if you have a great deal of documents to print off then get a laser printer.

In the office we use HP inkjet printers and we also have an Epsom to test the papers on too. We have been through quite a few laser printers from Epsom to Cannon. The best laser printer we have used for the longest amount of time is an OKI printer.

We have made some more occassions card kits. We have Mother's day, Valentines, New Home, Sorry, Happy Birthday, Butterfly theme and Easter.. We will be putting these card kits on the site soon so you will be able to download them.

The card kits are easy to make. You will have one or two sheets which you print off using any kind of inkjet paper. We printed the sheets off using inkjet card, but you could use parchment paper, vellum, anything which has a little bit of body will work well. You need an A4/A5 card blank. You cut out the conponents which have all been sized to fit this size of card. Stick them to the card blank and then use some silicon glue to add the decoupage. All the components are easy to cut out using a craft kife or a pair of scissors.

'Have you got talent' crafty comp now launched

'Have you got talent' crafty comp now launched!!!We are launching our 'Have you got talent' Crafty competition today. The winners will get £100 plus a bottle of champers!!! There will be three runners up in each category and they will all receive£25 gift voucher each to spend at Crafty Computer Paper.We are going to set up the competition the same as last year, there will be four categories this year. You can enter any project which has been made using any Crafty Computer Paper products.
The three categories are;
Projects which have used decal paperProject which have used inkjet fabric sheetsCardmaking and ScrapbookingEverything else projects.
The competition starts from today 20/05/2008 and you can either send in a good quality high res photo of your projects via email. You can send them to us via post and we will photograph them and send them back to you. If you do not want them back we will give them to charity. You can enter more than one project in as many categories are you like.
The winners and runners up will have their photos of their creations shown on the Crafty Computer Paper website and the close of the competition will be 20th August so you have plenty of time to make some fab creations.

Chalet to rent in Switzerland

One of the girls in the office has got a Chalet in Switzerland to rent out. If anyone is interested then do please visit the site. It is in a great village in the Valais region of Switzerland. If you fancy a skiing holiday then it is a very ecomically way of doing it without having the spend a fortune is a big resort. It is also lovely in the summer time, peaceful and there are plenty of thing for the kids to do too.

Hi just to let you know that we didn't win the North-East business awards. A cafe called Pebbles in Allendale, Northumberland won. We wish them all the best for the future. We had a great time at the awards ceremony, it was a very lavish affair and it was great that us and the three finalist were girls as it is a very male dominated event. I think we deserve a pat on the back.

Finialist for North-East business awards

We will be going to another award ceremony next Thursday. We are one of the finalist 3 in total for the creative and cultural award for the North-East Business awards. I don't know how we will do against the other finalist. The good thing is that all the finalist are women, all the other awards will all be men. We are up against Stage Coach the stage school and a Gallery cafe in Allendale. I think that Stage coach will win because they are the biggest company and they will help more towards the community than we do. The Judges for the last award came to see us which was nice but we haven't heard anything from the Arts Couvcil who are judging this award.
Anyway please wish us luck for next Thurday.

North-East Business Awards result

Hi Everybody, We didn't win the Internet and ICT award last night but we did get a very nice certificate with FINALIST. We were very proud of ourselves as there weren't many girls there and out of 11 awards and 33 shortlisted people there were only 4 women. Only 1 woman won an award, congrats to her. We had a delicious dinner at the Gosforth Park Hotel and we were all feeling slightly jaded today but we kept carrying on. I should be in bed now but I just wanted to write this post first.

It was really exciting when it was our turn. I had to go up on stage with the other entrants and we had a watch a 45 sec film about each business, so pleased the dogs Pops and Lulu were on the film too. We then had a quick speech and the award was given to Northumbria University. I don't think you can compare our businesses and as they turn over 25 million a year, we didn't have a look in. Not to worry congratulations to them.

We have also been shortlisted for another award in the Final of the North-East Business Awards. This does not have regional catergories so we have been short-listed straight into the final. The award is for best Cultural and Creative business in the North-East. We are up against Stage Coach the threatre school and a local art/coffee shop. I think with winning awards it is luck and up to what tickles the judges fancy. If we don't win we will get another certificate to hang on the wall in the office.

We have just added Video to the site

We have just started to add videos to the site. We are adding small video demos on how to use some of the products. Charlotte has been learning how to add the videos and has had great fun in the process.
It is much harder to add video as opposed to still photography to the site. You need good lighting and the right equiptment. She started off buying Sony handycam video recorder, it took ages to choose the make and model as there is so much mind boggling info about each camera. She then had to add some hardwear to her computer this was an ilink cable port, this was very easy to do and only took a few minutes. The reason she added an ilink port was so that the quality of the video was better than using a USB port. The she bought some good lights which cost about £350 and some software Sony Vegas movie software. All this investigating took about 1 month but eventually she managed to work it all out and has had a great time putting the videos together. We have started off with the product how-to's and then we will be starting the on-line craft course, showing customers how to make projects, these will be free to view, we will email when they are ready.

Create and Craft TV great success

We have made a few appearances on Create and Craft TV this year already. Charlotte went down to Peterbrough to do two live shows. One was straight after Christmas on the 3rd Jan and the other was last Friday 1st Feb. She was so pleased at the reponse to the new CD 'The Crafty Images Emporium CD'. Sales were great and the feedback has been very positive. We really wanted to give good value for money with this CD. On the Cd is 200 printable sheets of high resolution images. They can be edited so you can print off the images you want rather than having to print off the whole sheet. We feel that other CD's on the market do not give you value for money, they either offer many images of low res and are not much good for printing off or they offer not many images and they are repeated in different sizes. I don't know what anybody else thinks out there.
We have been asked to go on Create and Craft again in March for a pre-record which means we show you how to use the CD again and the show is repeated. I think we will also go on using out papers too.
If you do not have SKY TV you can watch Create and Craft using your PC. You need to go to www.createandcraft.tv and you will be able to watch the TV from the Website. My Mum does not have Sky and this is how she views the programs.

Technology is amazing these days, anything is possible.

Shortlisted for North-East Business Awards

We are all very excited here because we have been short-listed for an award. It is for the IT award for Tyneside and Northumberland, North-East Business Awards. We are up against 2 big players these are Medibroker and Northumbria University. We are all going to an award ceremony on 28th Feb to see if we have won. Even if we don't win we are very excited to be short listed out on many entries. Please wish us luck we will be keeping are fingers crossed.

We will be appearing on Create and Craft on the 3rd January at 2pm. it will be a live show and we will be showing our new CD, 'Crafty images Emporium'. We are in the process of making all the samples and we will post them all on the site before the show. You will be able to download the images we have used for FREE and make the cards for yourself. We will only tell the mailing list customers and who ever reads this blog. We will let you know when they are posted on the site and on this blog.
We hope the show is at 2pm, the last time we went on they got the time wrong and it was a diaster because we told everybody the wrong time. We even sat down to watch it from here and when it didn't come on we realised we had the wrong time. Don't worry we will check and then confirm later. Charlotte will be demonstrating this time.

Well done Cazz for raising £3106 for Children in need. We had this photo taken with her when we were at the Hobbycrafts NEC. She was having her photo taken with everybody who had been on TV. She is on a large forum called e-magination and she asked all the members to pay money to see the photos. What a good idea!!! We gave her some cd's to sell which she managed to auction off. I think there should be more people like CAZZ well done from Crafty Computer Paper.

Back from the NEC

Hi Everybody and sorry we haven't added any more info to this Blog for a few weeks. We have been so busy being at the NEC and then catching up when we got home. Poor Jane was ill so we have been one man down, I am glad to say she is on fighting form again now.
We had such a good time at Hobbycrafts. We stayed at the Hilton Hotel (they had a special offer). It was very comfortable but very very expensive, you needed to take out a second mortgage if you wanted a drink. One night we slightly over celebrated and all suffered badly the next day.
The show was great and it was brilliant meeting all the customers, I was amazed at how many customers came with their 15% discount vouchers. We had planned the stand differently this year which I think worked well. We made it look like a market stall so customers could see the products better, they didn't have to come into the stand like last year.
Jan a new member of staff had such a good time she is missing the time she spent down at the show, we met some lovely people all very kind and enthusiastic with their comments about the products and the company.
It is great for all of us to come down and see our customers, we normally only ever talk to people on the phone or the email so it was great to see some faces.
Thank you to all those who we met and bought products from the stand.

Hobbycrafts the NEC 8th-11th November

We are getting ready to go to our annual show at the NEC. It always turns out to be a bit of a works do and we always have a good time. It's great to get away and meet new people and see the customers. We all have young families and it's great to have a break from the cooking and cleaning and general day to day duties. We will be staying in the NEC Hilton which will be a treat and it means we don't have to hit the motorways in the morning and worry about the traffic.

We have made some changes to our stand and we want to make it more like a market stall with bunting and lots of bright colours. We hope it works and we can hide behind the tables when it gets too busy. Last year it was amazingly busy on the Saturday we couldn't believe the amount of people who were there. This will be the last time we will do the NEC and we are hoping to go the Glasgow next year for a change. Glasgow is only 2 hours away and it will be great to see our Scottish customers.

Let us know if anyone is going to be at the NEC, do pop in an see is. I can't remember the stand name but we are on a corner somewhere in the middle.

The Office Dogs

Here is a picture of Pops and Lulu who are our office dogs. They are so cuddly and sweet!!! we love them. Do any of you take your dogs to work? We are lucky because the office is situated on a farm so we can just open the door and they have so much freedom, we just have to watch out for the tractors and the odd sheep and they are fine. Pops is the Mother of Lulu and they are mini wired haired Dachshunds. I don't know anyone else who has this breed of dogs, I'd love to hear from any Dachshund owners!!
